What far flung and exotic locales have you dreamed of exploring? "Life is short, the world is big, and the value of travel is too great to wait..." say National Geographic authors Mike and Anne Howard. Though COVID restrictions may have kept many of us at home for the past year, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Now is the ideal time to consider your next adventure. WARNING: The following interview may spark your free spirit to travel far and wide (on any budget!).

Instinctual Health with Natalie Jackson

Instinctual Health with Natalie Jackson

An e-mail popped up in my inbox about 6 months ago. It read: “My partner Lucas is a grad student at Southern Oregon University. I saw the cover of Wildpreneurs on your desk, quickly snagged it and didn’t give it back until I finished…Your book was magic!! You provided stories, insights and question prompts to set my inner compass. I especially loved your short interviews with other self employed folks. BUT! Most of all, I could finally relate to an author who has a robust outdoor background, like I do, who combines wellness, self-employment & soul work.” — Natalie Jackson. This thoughtful message meant so much to me. I’ve been in touch with Natalie ever since. It’s been awesome to watch her germinate, sprout and blossom as a Wildpreneur!

Girl Gotta Hike

Girl Gotta Hike

Melissa Goodwin was one of our first guests at the Tailwind Jungle Lodge. I was delighted by our connection and we kept in touch for over a decade! Our paths finally crossed again this January 2020 in Philadelphia where I was a speaker at the American Library Association Convention (ALA). Melissa invited me to go for a hike through Philly and be a guest on her Girl Gotta Hike podcast. I was delighted to explore Philly’s “Rocky steps” with Melissa. Tune into Melissa’s wild inspiration here:

Featured Wildpreneur: Mary McIntyre, Freelance Writer & Photographer

Mary melds the worlds of culture and adventure travel through photography and writing. Skiing is her passion, but any outdoor activity gets her stoked — rock climbing, kayaking, backpacking, and mountain biking keep her busy year-round. Mary’s recent trip to Iceland was cut a bit short (we’re all adapting in this unusual time) so she took a moment during her 2 week self-quarantine to share some of her Wildpreneur inspiration . Gracias Mary!

Jungle Baby's Birth Story

Jungle Baby's Birth Story

Oct. 21, 2019

We thought it was going to be an ordinary jungle day. We were wrong.

(But really, does “ordinary” ever happen in the jungle?)

Dawn. Monsoon rains soaked the jungle canopy throughout the night. At sunrise I waddled (38 weeks pregnant) through the sticky/sweet humid air to the muddy car, prepared for a journey into Puerto Vallarta for a standard prenatal OB appointment with Dr. Laura Garcia. Walter (my Tarzan) carefully chauffeured us on the delightfully lush yet horrifically bumpy road to San Pancho. A 3-mile jungle road that ordinarily takes 15 minutes was a radically different for a pregnant passenger—nearly an hour of jostling as I cradled my beach ball belly and used my swollen feet to brace through the bumps and cobblestones. Pregnant in the jungle…what have I gotten myself into? Am I completely crazy? This is certainly not the first time I’ve wondered about sanity and Wildpreneur lifestyle! Trust the flow, I reassured myself, as I’ve done countless times before.

Sailing Vessel TAILWIND

Sailing Vessel TAILWIND

Play With A Purpose

Wildpreneurship takes many forms. At the Tailwind Jungle Lodge, the wind is blowing us into new territory with our 47 ft Olympic ketch. Sailing vessel TAILWIND will combine adventure with awareness around marine and coastal conservation issues.

Mission: To embody and educate about the ways we can minimize our impact on the places where we love to play and explore. Trigger individual action locally that creates waves of positive change globally.

Purpose: Sailing vessel TAILWIND will be a non-profit branch of the Tailwind Jungle Lodge. This structure will allow us to seek grants and donations, that will fund our  desire to provide opportunities for school age children, scientific researchers, and tourists to come learn and explore on the Mexican Pacific Ocean.
